why i do theatre

Patsy Rodenburg has some amazing ideas and is a wonderful speaker. She tells us in this video that Actors are needed more than ever in our society. She lists many reasons but then she tells a story. Patsy explains how there was a man who came to the theater and said he didn't like it. He didn't like it because of a strange sound he heard. But then many years later, he himself made that same sound and he realized the impact that the production had had on him many years later. What an incredible thing to be apart of. You may never know who you impact with your work. It may be many years later but the influence that theatre and live performance has on people is unlike anything else. Its incredible. That is why I do theatre.
Patsy has a whole series talking about 1st, 2nd, and 3rd circles of acting. I HIGHLY suggest you watch and see how she discusses living in 2nd circle and see if you can implement that into your acting choices.

practice, practice, practice

Practice makes perfect. This is a common saying that we hear a lot. Aristotle has a great quote about how reaching excellence is a habit. You must repeatedly do it. You can't  expect to become perfect overnight. It takes time and it's a repeated effort. Don't forget to practice. This will make your lessons better, you will progress faster and you will discover things sooner.
